Day 1: Bamidele Bamgboye

I was recently asked to jot down my “Identity & Culture” and straight away I put down Christian. After a good 5 minutes, I couldn’t think of anything else. Eventually I put down Nigerian. It was then I began to reflect and I realised that literally my identity could only be found in Christ.

Colossians 2:9-10 speaks of the Deity which came in bodily form and the fact Christ not only came and died for me, but also lives in me, I have no choice but to Worship God!

Day 2 UK: Debbie Abe

There is so much more to Aunty Debbie than “African Praise”

I have always loved poetry, reading and being creative. I worship to see my King in the beauty of His holiness,

it is there in His beauty that I receive my creativity and my organisation skills and all that is required to be Aunty Debbie.

It is in my worship that I am able to express my gratitude for all God has done, all He is doing and all He will do.

You will show me the path of life, in Your presence there is fullness of JOY, I could stay here forever in the presence of my King, for better is one day in your courts than a thousand anywhere else ……….

Day 3 UK: Wonu Olayinka

I believe Worship has to come naturally to someone. People can be forced to worship but the real worship comes from the heart. I worship because I know what Jesus did from me on the cross. He died for my sins, all our sins. For us to be forgiven. Worship is a lifestyle for me. Others may think that worship should just be left for church, which is wrong. We shouldn’t be told when or how to worship
Sometimes we go to church, we sing songs, we listen to sermons and serve in ministries, but yet we still don’t worship. I believe these are elements of worship but we may do all these things but still not truly worship.
“Therefore I urge you brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God – this is your true worship” Romans 12:1 NIV This scripture for me, defines my worship, surrounding my life and accepting Jesus as my Lord and Saviour.
When I worship I feel free and experience that special connection I have with Him.

Day 4 UK: Joké Adedokun

I worship God because He is my creator!
There’s a song that comes to mind as I write this, not sure of every single lyric but there’s a part of the song that says .. It’s your breath in our lungs so we pour out praise, we pour out praise. When I first heard this song I was like this is soooooo true! The revelation hit me that my life is truly not my own. I don’t have any say so on whether I take my next breath or not. He allows me to breathe and therefore I breath. He is the reason I breathe, he is the reason my heart beats and I’m not saying that to sound creative or mushy, no. it is actually at his say so that my blood flows through my body reaches my heart and allows it to beat. So why on earth wouldn’t I worship him.
He is the author and the creator of my being!

Day 5 UK: Bukki Akanni.

The reason why I worship is that it makes feel complete, because at that moment when you’re in his presence you don’t need anything because you are filled which makes me feel complete.

“I am the LORD your God, Who brought you out of the land of Egypt; Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.”(Psalm 81:10 NKJV). This verse explains everything he brought me out of, my troubles and that’s why I should praise him and with praising him I feel whole.

Day 6: Stephanie Popoola

I worship because God is worthy. Simple as. You know that phrase ‘If you don’t know my story, you won’t understand my praise’? That’s really where my true worship comes from. I don’t call God these wonderful names that He has because they sound so amazing or because I’ve heard someone else say it. I worship him because I have realised who He is for myself. That’s the revelation of God we all need individually, so we all have a personal reason for why we worship Him.

Day 6: Debbie Godchaser

Worship is my authentic mode of expression. Typically, of God’s love.

I’ve never really known what TRUE love is or how it truly feels to be loved. The reality that Christ found me, saved me and actually wanted me, allows me to freely strip myself of substitutes and be vulnerable before Him as myself, in my natural state. Understand that God doesn’t look at what we clothe ourselves with on the outside, but rather the thoughts, feelings, emotions we fill our hearts with.

True Love is found in Him, all because He first loved us. Galatians 5:6 (AMP) states: “For [if we are] in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything, but only faith activated and expressed and working through love.”

Day 7: Dimeji Akanni

So the question to answer is ‘Why do we worship?’

The honest truth is that recently I have been trying to answer that same question myself and funnily enough I had to go back to worship to be able to answer it.

What I discovered is that when we worship, we invite God and His presence to where we are and through this heavenly interaction the possibilities are endless. But to answer the question, the reason I worship is because of the beautiful exchange between God and I. I give him true worship from the heart that He alone deserves and then He restores, reveals, transforms, molds, conforms me to the person He desires me to be.

Day 8: Tolu Oloyede
I worship because there is NO other god like God. No other god has and can do what God has done. I worship because He is the only TRUE God. He showers me daily with blessings that I do not deserve and on top of that He has proven His love by giving the sacrifice of His son and blessing me with the guidance of His Holy Spirit.

“But the Lord is the true God; he is the living God, the eternal King. When he is angry, the earth trembles; the nations cannot endure his wrath.”
Jeremiah 10:10 NIV

“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
Lamentations 3:22-23 NIV

“At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. But when the kindness and love of God our Saviour appeared, he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.”

Day 9: Leke Oloyede

I worship because he has given me Life.
Life in three different aspects.

Physical LIFE – Protection
7 The LORD will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life.
8 The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore. Psalms 121:7-8

With all the different things happening in this world only God is my protection, I have resolved in my heart that God is my protector and he is my guide in all things. He is the owner of my life, this is why I worship Him.

Spiritual LIFE – Changed
For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. Romans 8:2

I worship God because he has given me a new life, and new life more abundantly in Him. He took me out of the darkness of this world and opened me up too His beautiful light. he made me a new creation in him, He has filed me up with His Spirit and made me New. My heart is new in him, I am aware of my sinful nature in Him. His Love above all has changed me and while yet I was a Sinner he loved me and died for me making me internally clean for His Glory alone.

His LIFE
For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45

Above all things (something I touched on in the 2nd one). He died for me. He gave His life for Mine, ‘Here in the death of Christ, I live’. What a privilege to live in and under the grace and mercy my Lord Jesus Christ did for me. Like WOOOOOW.. This is why I worship… Because He saved me from my depravity.

One thing that has always stuck with me is Isaiah 6v5-8

Isaiah had a vision in which he saw the Lord.
Isaiah reacts to God’s presence by being totally open and honest: ‘I am a man of unclean lips’. Isaiah’s lips are then touched and his sins are forgiven and he is then in a position to answer the call to being a prophet.

I pour out the contents of my heart before God. Open and honest. When I give Him ALL of me He is able deal with ALL of me. This is Him being my Lord

I worship because I know I was in need of Saviour and He snatched me out of darkness into His marvelous light!

The reason why I worship is simple. It’s because God loves me.
Romans 5:8 says “God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us”. If not for Gods unchanging love for me, I probably would end up wasting my life, wasting the calling He has given me. Even in the midst of all of my sins, Jesus still loves me. Its only right to right to worship Him.

Day 15: Abi Godchaser

Revelation 4:10-11 NKJV
……. the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying: “You are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honour and power; For You created all things, And by your will they exist and were created.”

The reason why I worship is because it was what I was created for. It is the reason for my being. We were created by GOD to worship Him, to glorify Him and to enjoy Him for eternity.

Adam and Eve, before the fall, were just enjoying the presence of GOD in the cool of the day. The Lord enjoyed their relationship and companionship.

Day 16: Racheal Okusanya

I worship because of the beauty of his inexpressible Love that God has for me.
“We love Him, because He first loved us.” 1 John 4:19 – like He had even chosen to love me when I hadn’t chosen to follow Him (I feel like that’s quite deep)

Another thing I always remember is the power of His love; that always brings peace, and calmness to me.
I always enjoy being able to just rest in Him daily; in that secret place, in His Love.
This is why I worship!

Day 17: Tolu Ajagbe

To me worship is an expression of Love to God. It is where I can humbly bow before Him to show Him appreciation for everything He has done for me
God is loving, forgiving and merciful so when I worship it’s done in an act of adoration to God, in awe and in total surrender-ness.

But then I thought deeper as to why I worship. I worship God to get closer to Him. Being a Christian means having a relationship with God and to have a relationship means to know who He is. Therefore, the more time I spend in His presence as well as in the word I’m able know and comprehend His majesty.
James 4v8 says “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you”
Which in essence is a relationship.
So worshiping God allows me to build a stronger connection with Him.

A worshipper once said, “Praise is what you do when you have that something that has been given to you, it comes with condition.

Whereas in worship, worship is saying “I’m going to give God glory, if I get this promotion and I will worship even if I do not get this promotion”

Worship is my bridge to intimacy and stronger relationship with God,
it is my way of communicating how I feel with God, other than in prayer.

Day 20: David Oloruneto

Worship is an expression of submission and complete obedience to the authority and supremacy of God. It is an act of obeisance and of adoring GOD in His entirety. As the definition above states I worship GOD because it is a commandment and because HE is GOD.
REV 14: 7 He said in a loud voice, “Fear GOD and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship HIM who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water.”
I worship HIM because of who HE is, who HE was and who HE will be so to worship GOD is to know GOD.
I worship GOD to have a personal revelation of HIM also it deepens MY relationship with HIM, I feel free worshipping HIM. I hear more when I worship GOD. It brings me closer to HIM and makes me see my weakness and that I am nothing compared to GOD. It breaks me down
and humbles me because I am in front of the owner of life and of the universe.
It causes me to think of how I am saved and the impact of the cross. I will forever be grateful to HIM. It is also to get myself ready for eternity because that I is what I will be doing forever.

When I worship I pour out my heart to God, surrendering all to Him- my pains and struggles, when I have messed things up thinking I can fix it, being too strong for too long without realising that my strength is in Him… I need to surrender to Him and let Him know that I need help and I cannot do it on my own. I need Him but not just when times are tough but also when things are going well.
My worship is a way of me appreciating the love that God has for me and me expressing my love towards Him and being thankful for His kingdom that I have received.
Sometimes I am lost for words when I think about just how holy and great God is. His infinite love towards me that doesn’t falter even when my faith in Him does or I mess up big time. I am in the process of learning to reciprocate that unconditional love to Him…

Day 22: Pelumi Adedokun

I used to “worship” because I thought I had to, but as I’ve grown I’ve realised that worship is something we can give back to God, for all He has done. There’s a scripture that states: “everything good comes from God”. We were all created to worship and walk with our Father. There is also something very powerful about true worship from the heart. When we let go and surrender everything to God we’ll be surprised at what God is doing for us behind closed doors.
To conclude: the reward of worship is God.

Day 23: Ruth King

I worship God because I constantly look at my life and the many ways that he upholds me. Whenever I want to give up I remember that he is there. Whenever there seems to be no way God shows up! He brings me joy even when pain, disappointments are all around me, HE REALLY IS MY ROCK! I can cry to him whenever; HE TRULY IS AN AWESOME FATHER!

Psalm 18: 2 The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold
Psalm 18:6 In my distress, I called to the Lord; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears.

These two verses depict exactly why I worship, like who else is there for me in my distress, who else upholds me ONLY GOD!
There is nothing or nobody that can be compared to my father, He is TRULY GOD!
